Women request breast reduction to correct three problems...
First, the breast mound has moved lateral and down the chest wall. This decreases the cleavage and the breast lies too low.
Second, the shape has changed from conical with projecting areolas to deflated with downward pointing areolas.
Third, the breast size is too large.
The ideal goal is to lift the breast mound so that it begins at the level of a horizontal line determined by the junction of the arm to the chest. The second goal is to reshape the breast, increasing projection and repositioning the areola anteriorly. The third goal is to reduce the volume of the breast. A new technique of internal suspension similar to a push up bra corrects all of these problems. The cleavage is restored by repositioning the mound closer together.
The conical shape is restored by internal suturing. The size is reduced to a level determined by the patient. This procedure shifts the entire breast mound upward to re-establish a youthful appearance. The procedure is done as an outpatient procedure and is covered by many insurance companies.
