Liposuction is a great resource for body contouring and even for some medical conditions! At Gary Horndeski MD, our medical professionals are committed to providing all of our patients with the utmost care and expertise so that you can look great and feel great.
How does stomach liposuction work?
First, there are two types of fat in the human body: the superficial layer and the deep layer, also known as the superficial fascia and the deep fascia. The deep fascia is found around the muscles and tendons, while the superficial fascia connects the skin to the underlying bones and deep fascia. Stomach liposuction bypasses the superficial fascia and focuses on the deep layer of fat known as the deep fascia. In doing so, the procedure reduces the risk of inflicting damage upon the skin. The process works by pushing a stainless-steel tube called a cannula through the layers of fat, breaking up fat cells as it does so. Then, a vacuum pump or syringe removes the fat through suction.
What should I expect from a stomach liposuction procedure at Gary Horndeski MD?
Prior to proceeding with liposuction, you will have an initial consultation with our plastic surgeon. In this consultation, your surgeon will discuss your medical history, current health status, any medications you are taking, and the goals that you have for liposuction. This consultation serves the purpose of ensuring you are able to receive liposuction without complications and also if you need to make any lifestyle modifications to prepare for the procedure. For your sake and ours, we want to ensure that the procedure can be administered safely.
The procedure will take place at our clinic as long as Dr. Horndeski believes he can safely provide you with liposuction. Before the procedure begins, Dr. Horndeski will mark the areas on your body where liposuction will be performed and, with your permission, may take photos of those areas for before-and-after comparisons. You will also be given general anesthesia so that you will be asleep for the entire procedure, which will take about one to two hours. As a result, it is important that you have someone who can drive you home once the procedure is completed.
During the procedure, our plastic surgeon, Dr. Horndeski, will make small incisions on the marked areas through which he will insert a cannula tube into through the superficial layer of fat and into the deep facia. A suction device or a syringe will be attached to the cannula to withdraw the unwanted fat. Once the procedure is over, you should be able to return home the same day with assistance from a friend or family member. You should expect to be back to normal in a minimum of two weeks.
Should I get liposuction?
It is important to note that liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure and is therefore not a suitable solution to obesity. However, liposuction is an excellent procedure for you if you are hoping to enhance and refine your body’s contours. It is also a proven solution to conditions such as lymphedema, gynecomastia, lipodystrophy syndrome, extreme weight loss after obesity, and lipomas. In order to qualify for liposuction treatment, you need to be 18 or older and healthy. Your surgeon may advise you to not go through with the procedure if you suffer from circulation problems stemming from conditions such as coronary artery disease, diabetes, or a weakened immune system.
How much does liposuction cost?
The price of liposuction varies depending on the treatment area size, how much fat is removed, the state where the treatment center is located, and your doctor. For stomach liposuction in Texas, the expected cost usually ranges from $3,000 to $7,000.
